On Saturday (October 24) afternoon, after a civic gathering on community policing in Khulna Division held at KMP's Police Lines in Boyra, Khulna, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir said these things to journalists.
The IGP said that in extortion incidents, victims often fear speaking out and giving testimony due to fear of influential people, which creates complications in taking legal action. If the new law is passed, that problem will be removed. He also said joint operations are continuing across the country to reduce the distance that has developed between the police and the public over the past 17 years and to curb drugs and juvenile gangs.
The IGP also mentioned that there is a plan to create a legal framework to make community policing activities more effective and run it as a separate branch of the police.
