BNP does not want to implement any reform agenda: Akhtar Hossain
National Citizens Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain has alleged that BNP does not want to implement any of the government's reform agenda; rather, it is looking for excuses to go backwards. He said this on Sunday (25 October) at a discussion meeting organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the National Press Club marking the 'first anniversary of the signing of the July National Charter'.

Demanding the cancellation of the unilateral and one-party constitution amendment committee, Akhtar Hossain said that the ongoing crisis must be resolved by forming a constitutional reform council in accordance with the verdict of the referendum. He alleged that even after the July Charter was signed, gained legal basis, and was passed in a referendum, the government does not want to accept it.

The NCP leader further said that the government is not implementing even those reform proposals to which BNP had no objection or ‘note of dissent’. Decisions such as forming a police reform commission, establishing a Supreme Court secretariat, and appointing chairpersons from the opposition in proportion in parliamentary standing committees have been completely ignored. He remarked that the government is following a process to ensure that no reform is implemented at all.
