Health sector has fallen behind due to fascist rule and corruption: President
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has remarked that the country's health sector has failed to achieve its desired goals due to fascist rule, limitless corruption and unplanned decisions. He said this at the inaugural ceremony of 'BSCRS Congress 2026' organized by the Bangladesh Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons on Tuesday (October 27).

The President said, no one should be deprived of medical services due to lack of money, to that end, everyone must work collectively. Although the current government started work from the ruins, progress in the health sector continues. However, to make the healthcare system more effective, modern and people-oriented, planned initiatives as well as transparency and accountability must be ensured. He noted that over the past 17 years, like other sectors, the health sector did not achieve the desired progress.

The President said that the government is working to eliminate corruption that has taken root in every sector of the country, and that world-class medical services, modern technology, skilled specialist doctors and a patient-friendly environment must be ensured. The current government has increased allocations by giving top priority to the health sector, but proper use of this money must be ensured. If transparency and accountability are maintained, ordinary people will receive better treatment.

Emphasizing ensuring improved medical services for the people of the country, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, capacity must be increased so that people do not have to go abroad for treatment. He called for enriching healthcare by creating skilled manpower in specialized medical fields, expanding modern treatment methods and enhancing professional skills. The President expressed hope that if capacity is increased, especially in areas such as colon and rectal surgery, patients will receive advanced treatment within the country.
