Allegations of Tk 120 crore transactions in Public Works transfers; concern over appointment of Awami League loyalists to key installations
Allegations have surfaced of widespread irregularities in the transfer and posting of engineers under the name of a lottery system in the Housing and Public Works Department, manipulation of grading sheets, and illegal transactions of about Tk 120 crore. Complainants allege that, instead of seniority and merit, officers close to the previous Awami League government are being posted through influence to key state installations (KPIs), including the residences of the Prime Minister and ministers.

It is known that nearly 1,500 engineers of the department were transferred at once within just one month. There are allegations that, by fixing the list before the lottery, officers such as A.N.M. Mazharul Islam, Md. Ziaur Rahman, Reza Taimur Malik, and former minister Amir Hossain Amu's relative and former BUET Chhatra League leader Masum Billah were posted to important divisions in Dhaka. In addition, serious allegations of tender trading and collection of large commissions have been raised against Supervising Engineer Abu Naser Chowdhury, who took charge of Dhaka Public Works Circle-2 in exchange for Tk 10 crore.

Demands have been raised to investigate whether there is any political conspiracy behind these postings to sensitive installations related to the Parliament building, NSI, ACC headquarters and the Prime Minister's residence. In this regard, Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujon), expressed deep concern. He said that placing controversial and politically influenced officers in charge of maintaining important installations, including the President's residence and the Prime Minister's Office, could be dangerous for the government. He advised that these postings be immediately investigated and legal action taken, and that trusted officers free from political controversy be assigned responsibility.
