Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said they have come out on the streets not for personal or party interests, but to realize the people's demands. Their previous two long marches also succeeded with people's cooperation. This long march has been organized with a seven-point demand, including implementation of the referendum verdict, trial of the July genocide, resolution of the energy crisis, preventing the upward trend in commodity prices, and stopping extortion and narrow partisanization.
He further said the main demand of the seven points is implementation of the referendum verdict. Had it been realized, the other crises would not have arisen. Noting that the BNP government betrayed the people's trust and disappointed them, he warned that if the public verdict is not implemented, BNP will have to pay a heavy price for it.
