Auto-rickshaw registration in city corporation areas starts tomorrow
The registration process for battery-powered auto-rickshaws in 13 city corporation areas of the country is starting tomorrow, Monday (November 2). State Minister for Local Government Mir Shah Alam disclosed this information today, Sunday (November 1), at the Secretariat. However, he said that even though registration is starting, auto-rickshaws currently in operation will not be stopped right away.

According to the new regulations, a maximum of five auto-rickshaws can be registered against one national identity card. The registration fee for a two-passenger auto-rickshaw is Tk 8,000 (annual renewal Tk 4,000), and the registration fee for a four-passenger one has been set at Tk 10,000 (annual renewal Tk 5,000). These rickshaws, with a 12-year validity period, must be equipped with a speedometer.

The state minister said that although the approved speed limit for auto-rickshaws is 25 kilometers per hour, it will not exceed 15 kilometers per hour in schools, hospitals, and crowded areas. In addition, rickshaw batteries must be charged only at charging stations. He also warned of legal action against those using illegal electricity. The state minister also said there are plans to determine zones, routes, and colors for auto-rickshaw movement in the future.
