Jamiat demands halt to mosque-madrasa vandalism in India and repeal of UCC
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has demanded an end to bulldozer campaigns against mosques and other religious sites in India, an end to harassment and misinformation against madrasas, and complete rejection of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Three resolutions with these demands were adopted at the annual managing council meeting held in Mewat, Nuh district, Haryana, under the chairmanship of the organization's president, Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani. About 2,000 delegates from various regions of the country participated in the meeting held on 30 and 31 October.

In the resolution on protecting mosques, Jamiat said that a mosque is not merely a structure; it is an expression of Muslims' religious belief and constitutional freedom. The organization noted that even if a structure is claimed to be illegal, it cannot be demolished without due legal process. In this regard, it demanded strict enforcement of the Places of Worship Act, 1991, and full implementation of the Supreme Court's interim directives. At the same time, Jamiat directed mosque management committees to verify and update necessary legal documents within the next six months.

Concern was expressed over harassment and baseless propaganda in the name of recognition and registration in the resolution regarding madrasas, and the central government was urged to ensure constitutionally granted rights. However, madrasa administrators have also been advised to ensure administrative and financial transparency. In addition, describing the UCC as discriminatory, Jamiat completely rejected it. According to the organization, in a multi-religious country like India, a single legal framework may negatively affect religious and cultural diversity.
