If the situation deteriorates in December, the government will have to bear the responsibility: Nahid Islam
Opposition Chief Whip and NCP Convener Nahid Islam has remarked that because the government failed to take action at the right time, the garment workers' movement has grown larger, and if any fascists infiltrate it, the government will have to bear the responsibility. He said this in reply to a question from journalists at the Pabna District Shilpakala Academy premises on Tuesday afternoon (November 3). He also warned that if any situation in the country deteriorates in December, the government will have to bear the responsibility for that as well.

Terming the government's activities over the past eight months a complete failure, Nahid Islam said ordinary people are fed up with the deterioration of the law and order situation and repeated increases in LPG gas prices. Stating that the workers' demand for a wage increase is logical, he said NCP will stand by their demand. At the same time, criticizing BNP, he said the party is giving shelter and patronage to Awami League across the country. Party leaders and activists are being favored through fertilizer dealerships and family cards. Yet they are not taking a stand in favor of the workers' legitimate demands.

Regarding the Ganges water-sharing treaty, the NCP convener said his party will take to the streets in December demanding its fair share of water. In addition, despite being in alliance with Jamaat, he announced that NCP will participate independently in the upcoming local government elections. Later, he joined as chief guest an NCP organizational exchange meeting at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium. The special guests included NCP Joint Convener Ali Ahsan Junaid, Joint Member Secretary S M Saif Mostafiz, among others.
