In Tuesday's elections, Congressman Andy Biggs in Arizona, John James in Michigan, Treasurer Stacey Garrity in Pennsylvania, Tom Tiffany in Wisconsin, and billionaire businessman Rick Jackson in Georgia were defeated.
Biggs and Tiffany voted in favor of overturning the 2020 results and signed onto a lawsuit to declare the results in four states invalid. Garrity called for overturning the results at a Trump rally on January 5, 2021, and the Capitol was attacked the next day. James later changed his position and called the 2020 election 'rigged and influenced.' Later, Tiffany, Garrity, and Jackson accepted Biden's victory, but Biggs and James did not change their positions.
According to analysts, this result could also affect the 2028 presidential election. Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are important as swing states, and governors play a major role in voting rights, election administration, and congressional redistricting. Georgia's outgoing Governor Brian Kemp has already said he will not call a special session on redistricting before his Democratic successor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, takes office.
Meanwhile, after control of both chambers of Congress went to the Democrats, President Donald Trump told The New York Times that he is 'fully prepared' to accept the midterm election results and wants to work with the Democrats.
