At an emergency press conference at the party's central office in Magbazar in the capital at noon on Thursday, the party's Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said that the current situation is not merely a worker-owner dispute; it is a critical crisis for industrial production, exports and the national economy.
The demands include—determining the minimum wage taking into account the real cost of living, inflation and the basic needs of families, and making it effective from January 2027; conducting an impartial investigation into the death of worker Taufiq Sheikh, killed in Gazipur, and punishing those responsible; ensuring proper medical treatment for the injured and compensation for the families of the deceased; bringing those involved in vandalism and sabotage under the law; stopping the use of force and harassment against workers; releasing innocent arrested workers and withdrawing harassing cases.
They also demanded reopening closed factories quickly, stopping illegal retrenchment, paying overdue wages and allowances, ensuring rationing, healthcare, housing and social security for workers, and a safe working environment for female workers. He also called for a rapid tripartite dialogue involving government, owners and workers' representatives.
