Khairul Haque's bail, no obstacle to release
The High Court has granted bail to former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque in a murder case of a young man named Khobaiyab in the capital's Jatrabari during the anti-discrimination student movement. Following this order, his lawyer said there is no longer any legal obstacle to his release.

On Tuesday (June 30), a High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajal and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher issued a rule along with the bail order.

Senior lawyers Mansurul Haque Chowdhury, Motahar Hossain Saju, and Saeed Ahmed Raja argued on behalf of Khairul Haque in court.

After the verdict, lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju said, as bail has been granted in this case, there is no longer any legal obstacle to Khairul Haque's release.

Earlier, on June 21, his bail petition in the same case was rejected by the trial court, after which he appealed to the High Court.

According to the case's first information report (FIR), on the morning of August 5, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement in the Jatrabari area, Khobaiyab (20) was killed in firing by police and Awami League activists. In this incident, the victim's brother Jobayer Ahmed filed a murder case on November 16 last year at Jatrabari police station, naming 80 people including ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as accused.

It is to be noted that former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque was arrested from his residence in the capital on July 24 last year. Since then, he has been in jail in various cases.
