Massive income from startup and digital currency reignites conflict of interest debate

US President Donald Trump has earned approximately $120 million from cryptocurrency-related businesses in the year since taking office for his second term. This income comes from the crypto startup World Liberty Finance (WLF), co-founded by him and his family, and licensing royalties from a cryptocurrency called 'Dollar Trump'.

According to financial information published by the US government ethics agency US Office of Government Ethics, Trump earned approximately $55 million from WLF alone in 2025. In addition, he received another $63.5 million in royalties from the licensing agreement for the 'Dollar Trump' cryptocurrency.

In September 2024, Trump and family members of his Middle East special envoy Steve Witkoff jointly established WLF. Later, in January 2025, just hours before Trump was sworn in as President, the cryptocurrency named 'Dollar Trump' was launched on the market.

According to the US magazine Forbes, the income from the crypto business has nearly tripled Trump's personal wealth. In 2024, his wealth was approximately $230 million, which has now reached $650 million.

Meanwhile, Trump's business involvement has sparked renewed debate over conflict of interest. Critics allege that despite being a major investor in the crypto sector, he has taken steps at the government level to ease regulations on this industry, leading to a rapid increase in the market value of digital currencies.

However, the White House has rejected these allegations. Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said in a statement to AFP that President Trump or any member of his family is not involved in any conflict of interest and will not be in the future.
