Switzerland wins World Cup knockout match after 88 years
Ending a long 88-year wait, Switzerland has secured a victory in the knockout stage of the World Cup. By defeating Algeria 2-0 in the Round of 32, the European team has qualified for the Round of 16 for the fourth consecutive time.

In the 10th minute of the match, Breel Embolo put Switzerland ahead. However, the main architect of the goal was Johann Manzambi. He advanced the ball from midfield with a solo effort, entered the box, and delivered a precise pass. Embolo capitalized on the opportunity with an easy finish to score.

Just 48 seconds into the second half, Switzerland doubled the lead. Algeria's defense failed to clear the ball, and Dan Ndoye, receiving the ball in front of the box, fired a brilliant shot into the far corner of the net.

In the 81st minute, Switzerland had another scoring opportunity but failed to convert. Instead of passing to Reider, who was unmarked at the far post, he attempted a backheel shot that went straight into the goalkeeper's hands.

With this win, Switzerland won a World Cup knockout match for the first time since 1938. In that tournament, they advanced past the Round of 16 to the quarter-finals. They had beaten Germany to reach the last eight but lost 2-0 to Hungary and were eliminated.
