In the biennial election of the Bangladesh Film Artists' Association for the 2026–2028 term, actor Shiva Shanu has won the post of President, and actor Joy Chowdhury has won the post of General Secretary.

On Friday (July 3), after a day-long voting session at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises, the election commission officially announced the results at 4:45 AM on Saturday (July 4).

Out of a total of 573 voters in the election, 480 exercised their franchise. After counting the votes, 17 ballots were declared invalid.

According to the announced results, Shiva Shanu won the post of President with 243 votes. His closest rival, fight director and actor Arman, received 173 votes. For the post of General Secretary, Joy Chowdhury was elected with 237 votes. His rival, Rumana Islam Mukti, received 179 votes.

For the post of Vice President, DA Tayeb (260 votes) and Elias Kobra (216 votes) were elected. For this post, Nutan received 204 votes and Rozina received 152 votes.

For the post of Joint General Secretary, Subrata was elected with 266 votes. His rival, Rina Khan, received 150 votes.

For the post of Organisational Secretary, Sony Rahman won with 233 votes. Chunnu received 182 votes.

For the post of International Affairs Secretary, Parvez Chowdhury Abir was elected with 272 votes. His rival, Popi, received 144 votes.

For the post of Office and Publicity Secretary, Jackie Alamgir was elected with 221 votes. For this post, Russell Mia received 195 votes.

For the post of Cultural and Sports Secretary, Maruf Akib won with 226 votes. Rivals Mushfiqul Jamil received 118 votes and Yusuf Khan received 72 votes.

For the post of Treasurer, Kamruzzaman Kamal was elected with 221 votes. For the same post, Jadu Azad received 197 votes.

Elected as Executive Members are: Ali Raj, Kabila, Kais Arju, Jesmin, Nasrin, Farhad, Shipon Mitra, Raka, Chikon Ali, Shirin Shila, and Sushanta.

The atmosphere at BFDC had been festive for several weeks surrounding this election. The main contest was between the Arman-Mukti panel and the Shiva Shanu-Joy Chowdhury panel. After the voting was completed peacefully, the election commission announced the results following a long counting process.

Under the supervision of Chief Election Commissioner Kamal Md. Kibria Lipu, through this election, the new leadership of the Bangladesh Film Artists' Association will take charge for the next two years. Stakeholders expect the newly elected committee to play an effective role in protecting artists' rights, expanding welfare activities, and developing the country's film industry.
