Hearing concludes in case of Matiur, known for 'goat scandal'
The hearing on framing charges against former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman, known for the 'goat scandal', has concluded. He is accused of acquiring assets worth approximately Tk 5.5 crore beyond his known income. The court will deliver its order on July 21.

The hearing was held on Sunday (July 5) in the court of Dhaka Divisional Special Judge B M Tariqul Kabir. After the hearing, the court set July 21 for the order on framing charges.

Matiur Rahman was produced in court from jail. While his lawyers sought his discharge, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) argued in favor of framing charges.

According to the case allegations, Matiur Rahman acquired assets worth approximately Tk 5 crore 40 lakh 97 thousand beyond his known income and concealed information about assets worth Tk 1 crore 24 lakh in his wealth statement. The ACC alleges that he acquired these assets through abuse of official power, bribery, and corruption.

On December 15, 2024, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed separate cases against Matiur Rahman and his second wife. Later, the charge sheet in the case was approved.

It is noteworthy that Matiur Rahman was arrested on January 14, 2025. He became known in the 'goat scandal' after widespread social media discussion in 2024 over the purchase of an expensive goat for Eid-ul-Adha.
