The noose awaits Sheikh Hasina: Nahid Islam
Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Chief Opposition Whip in parliament, said that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should be brought back to the country and the court's verdict should be implemented through legal process.

He made this comment in response to questions from journalists after concluding his speech as the chief guest at an event organized on the occasion of International Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day-2026 at the Diploma Engineers Institution in Kakrail, Dhaka on Friday (July 10).

Referring to a recently published interview regarding Sheikh Hasina's plan to return to the country, Nahid Islam said that they expect that if she returns, it will be to have the court's verdict implemented. He called upon the government to take necessary diplomatic and legal initiatives in this regard.

He said that the Bangladesh government will decide how Sheikh Hasina will return to the country, who will be with her, or whether she will surrender. He commented that the government should also take necessary discussions and diplomatic initiatives with India in this regard.

Nahid Islam further said that Sheikh Hasina's future steps will depend on the diplomatic and political understanding between Delhi and Dhaka. At the same time, he claimed that the Awami League currently does not exist as an effective political party.

The NCP leader also commented that the participants of the July mass uprising are prepared to face any situation to protect the country's independence, sovereignty, and economy.

He further said that if any attempt is made to create political instability centering on Sheikh Hasina or the Awami League, and if the government condones it, the government itself will face the most damage.

Regarding the trial of the Awami League, Nahid Islam said that the government is also thinking about the trial of the Awami League as a party, and he considers this a correct initiative. According to him, implementing the court's verdict against Sheikh Hasina should now be the next step.
