Opposition Leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep sorrow over the death of BNP National Standing Committee member and former Speaker Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar.
He expressed his condolences in a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday.
In the post, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman wrote, “BNP National Standing Committee member and former Speaker Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar is no more. Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Rajiun.”
He said, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar was a renowned senior lawyer of the Supreme Court and a clean and patriotic politician who performed his professional and political duties with dedication for a long time.
The Jamaat Ameer further said, during his tenure as Speaker of the National Parliament, he was respected by all quarters. During the fascist regime, when senior leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and others faced legal harassment, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar was sympathetic towards them and provided important advice on various issues.
He also mentioned that he stood as a lawyer in court on behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders. In his words, “We could never force him to accept any fee. He used to say, ‘This is my moral duty—to stand by these oppressed people.’ We are deeply grateful to him.”
At the end of the condolence message, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman sought forgiveness from Almighty Allah for the soul of Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar and prayed for him to be accepted as a guest in Paradise. At the same time, he prayed for patience for the deceased's family, relatives, colleagues, and well-wishers.
