5% tax incentive for e-return filing in July-September: NBR
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has started the online income tax return (e-return) filing process for individual taxpayers for the 2026-27 tax year. At the same time, to encourage taxpayers to file returns on time, the organization has announced a 5% incentive (maximum Tk 25,000) on net tax payable for returns filed between July and September.

This information was provided in a press release from NBR on Wednesday (July 22).

According to NBR data, since the introduction of the e-return system in 2021, it has received an overwhelming response from taxpayers. In the 2025-26 tax year, a record approximately 4.7 million individual taxpayers successfully filed their income tax returns online. As a result, taxpayers can now easily prepare, submit, and collect necessary certificates from home.

The organization stated that through a special order, online income tax return filing has been made mandatory for all general individual taxpayers. However, senior taxpayers aged 65 years or above, physically disabled or specially-abled taxpayers (subject to necessary certificates), Bangladeshi citizens residing abroad, representatives of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh will be able to submit paper returns.

Additionally, if anyone is unable to file an e-return due to registration-related complications, they will have the opportunity to submit a paper return with the approval of the concerned Additional or Joint Commissioner of Taxes.

NBR said that through the www.etaxnbr.gov.bd platform, taxes can be paid from home using various digital payment services including bank transfer, debit and credit cards, bKash, Nagad, and Rocket. If returns are filed with correct information, the acknowledgment receipt and income tax certificate can be downloaded instantly.

If there is any problem in filing e-returns, assistance can be obtained from NBR's call center (09643717171) and other online channels during office hours, excluding government holidays.

The press release further stated that those who file returns in July, August, or September for the 2026-27 tax year will receive an incentive at the rate of 5% on net tax payable. However, the maximum limit of this incentive is Tk 25,000. This benefit will not apply if returns are filed after September. Moreover, if returns are filed after December, additional tax must be paid according to the law.

The National Board of Revenue has urged all taxpayers to file their income tax returns within the deadline.
