Foreign Ministry yet to receive any information about the alleged phone call of the President
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs still does not have any specific information regarding the alleged telephone conversation between ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

He said this in response to questions from journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (July 23).

Journalists inquired whether the Bangladesh High Commission in London had informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about reports published in various media that President Mohammed Shahabuddin had spoken on the telephone with Sheikh Hasina during his stay in London for medical treatment in May this year.

In response, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs said, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet received any specific news in this regard. And if it is true, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will certainly investigate it. The government will also investigate it."

Recent reports in various media have claimed that during his visit to London for medical treatment, President Mohammed Shahabuddin spoke on the telephone with ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The reports also said that after the matter came to the attention of intelligence agencies, discussions began regarding the possible resignation of the President. However, no official statement has been issued by the government on these matters so far.

It is to be noted that Mohammed Shahabuddin assumed the office of the President of Bangladesh in April 2023. He continues to serve as President even after the mass uprising of July 2024.
