When will the Speaker perform the President's duties, what the Constitution says
There is intense discussion in the political arena regarding the possible resignation of the President. In this situation, the question arises—if the President's post becomes vacant or he is unable to perform his duties, who will perform the duties of the head of state?

Bangladesh's Constitution has given clear instructions on this matter. According to Article 54 of the Constitution, if the President's post becomes vacant or if he is unable to perform his duties due to absence, illness, or any other reason, the Speaker of the National Parliament will act as the Acting President.

The Constitution states that until a new President is elected and assumes office, or until the President resumes his duties, the Speaker will exercise the duties and powers of the President.

That is, if the President resigns, there will be no vacancy in the highest constitutional office of the country. Until a new President is elected, the Speaker of the National Parliament will perform the duties as the head of state.

This provision of the Constitution was enacted to maintain the administrative continuity of the state and to avoid a constitutional vacuum. Therefore, even if the President's post becomes vacant, the constitutional process of running the state will continue normally.

Recently, news has been published in various media about the possible resignation of President Md. Sahabuddin. However, no official announcement has been made yet from the President's office or the government regarding this matter. As a result, the issue of the President's resignation has not been officially confirmed yet.
