Charge sheet against Sheikh Hasina and 41 others
A formal charge sheet has been submitted to the International Crimes Tribunal against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 41 others on charges of crimes against humanity in connection with the attack and killings during the 2013 Hefazat-e-Islam grand rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel, Dhaka.

On Monday (July 27), the prosecution submitted this charge sheet to the International Crimes Tribunal.

Among the currently arrested accused in the case are former Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, retired Major General Ziaul Ahsan, former Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, former DIG Molla Nazrul Islam, President of the Advisory Council of the Onekatar Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir, former DIG Abdul Jalil Mandal, journalist Farzana Rupa, and Mozammel Babu.

Earlier, on July 19, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Md. Aminul Islam, had said that the draft report of the investigation into the crimes against humanity in the Shapla Chattar incident had come to them. In that report, it was mentioned that preliminary grounds for allegations have been found against 40 people, including fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister, former army chief, and former IGP. Later, after verification, the formal charge sheet was prepared.

According to prosecution sources, a total of 58 people were killed in the violence centered around Shapla Chattar on May 5, 2013, in four locations including Dhaka. The investigation agency said that among the deceased, 32 were identified in Dhaka, 20 in Narayanganj, 5 in Chattogram, and one in Cumilla.

With the submission of the charge sheet, the International Crimes Tribunal has moved to the next stage of the judicial proceedings in this widely-discussed case.
