Prime Minister visits Matarbari coal power plant
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the Matarbari coal-fired power plant located in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar. He reached Matarbari by helicopter at around 10:50 am on Sunday (August 9).

At that time, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, Member of Parliament for Cox's Bazar-2 constituency Almgir Muhammad Mahfuzullah Farid, and Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Md. A. Mannan welcomed the Prime Minister. Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury accompanied the Prime Minister.

After visiting the project area, the Prime Minister sat in a meeting with concerned officials. Progress, current status and other matters of the project were discussed there. Later he visited various activities of Matarbari deep sea port and Maheshkhali integrated development project.

Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman said, during the one-day visit, the Prime Minister will visit the Matarbari deep sea port, coal power project and activities of Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority in Maheshkhali. Later he will go to flood-affected areas of Chattogram and take part in rehabilitation activities for those affected by the recent floods.

The helicopter departed from Tejgaon airport in Dhaka at 9:15 am and reached Matarbari after about one and a half hours. After finishing the Maheshkhali programme, the Prime Minister attended a rehabilitation event for flood victims at the West Banshkhali High School and College ground in Baharchhara Union at 12:30 pm and handed over new houses.

Then he went to Fatikchhari by road. At 2:00 pm he met Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari at Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasa. Later he went to Hathazari; there at 3:15 pm he visited the grave of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi at Al Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa. At 5:00 pm he attended another rehabilitation event at Hathazari Government College ground and handed over houses to the affected people.

At 7:15 pm the Prime Minister attended an organizational meeting at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram. After all the programmes, at 9:30 pm he departed for Dhaka by plane from Hazrat Shah Amanat Airport in Chattogram.

During this one-day visit, the Prime Minister, besides visiting the country's important energy and port infrastructure projects, also took part in rehabilitation of flood victims and various important programmes in the Chattogram region.
