On Sunday, the meeting was held at the Commerce Ministry in the Secretariat, where various aspects of the two countries' economic potential, investment cooperation and partnership in the technology sector were highlighted. Commerce Secretary Md. Ataur Rahman Khan was present at the meeting.
During the meeting, Commerce Minister Khondaker Abdul Mutaqim said that although the current volume of trade between Bangladesh and Lithuania is limited, there is enormous scope for increasing cooperation between the two countries. In particular, Lithuania's technology companies can expand their operations in the South Asian market by utilising Bangladesh's rapidly growing ICT sector, skilled young workforce and the capabilities of its freelancers.
He said Bangladesh is currently a promising destination for investment. The necessary facilities have been ensured for repatriating investment and profits. Bangladesh offers a stable and investment-friendly environment for international investors.
Lithuanian Ambassador Diana Mickevičienė said Lithuania is one of the leading countries in world-class laser technology, GovTech and fintech services. Lithuania is interested in exchanging experience and technical cooperation to strengthen Bangladesh's digital transformation, technology development and cybersecurity.
She further said that if effective partnerships are developed between the government and private sectors of the two countries, new doors will open in technology, innovation and investment.
The meeting stressed the need for prompt and effective steps to expand trade between Bangladesh and Lithuania, increase business-level communication and undertake joint initiatives in technology-based sectors.
