He made these remarks while delivering the speech of the chief guest at the ‘Aquaculture Knowledge Day-2026’ programme at Banani in the capital.
The minister said researchers, scientists and entrepreneurs must work in a coordinated manner to produce safe and quality food. This will not only ensure food security for the country's people but also increase the acceptability of Bangladesh's products in the international market.
He laid emphasis on reducing soil and water pollution, controlling the use of pesticides and antibiotics, and reducing groundwater use. He also said the government is conducting research to identify sources of harmful elements, including lead and arsenic, in soil, water and food.
Assuring government cooperation to nurture young people as entrepreneurs in agriculture, the minister said one of the main objectives of enhancing agricultural production is to build a position in the international market alongside meeting domestic demand.
