Afghanistan: Law passed banning protests
The Taliban government has passed a law banning all kinds of protests in Afghanistan. Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said protests are part of democratic or republican systems; they have no place in the Islamic system.

On Wednesday (September 2), presenting arguments in favor of the ban, Mujahid said that in the Islamic system, people can go directly to the ruler and present their demands and grievances instead of protesting.

He further said that if protests are banned, people's time will not be wasted and personal property will also be protected from damage.

Various human rights organizations have expressed concern over this Taliban decision. They allege that protests have been banned as part of suppressing opponents.

After recapturing power in Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban declared the country an Islamic state. After two people were killed in a shooting during a protest over women's rights last June, no major protests have been seen in the country since.
