Owaisi condemns demolition of mosque in Saharanpur
Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen, strongly condemned the demolition of a mosque in the collectorate premises in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. He has questioned whether the constitutional guarantee of religious freedom for Muslims no longer applies.

In a social media post, Owaisi claimed that old documents up to 1911 show evidence of the mosque's existence at the site and that prayers have been offered there for a long time. He also commented that a mosque cannot be demolished with bulldozers merely because of objections.

Owaisi said the mosque was built before the collectorate was established, and argued that long-standing open and continuous possession should be considered in determining the legal status of the property.

Earlier, the district judge's court dismissed the mosque committee's appeal and upheld the city magistrate's order to remove the mosque. A compensation of about 6 crore 41 lakh rupees was also imposed on the mosque committee over allegations of illegal construction and occupation on government land.

Saharanpur police said additional security has been deployed and social media monitoring strengthened to control the situation. Leaders of Samajwadi Party and Congress also criticized the mosque demolition.
