No Distinction of Religion or Caste; Our Bigger Identity Is That We Are Bangladeshis: Food Minister
Food Minister Afroza Khanam has urged everyone to forget differences of religion and caste and remain united under the Bangladeshi identity. She said Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists or Christians—there is no discrimination in identity; everyone’s biggest identity is that we are Bangladeshis.

She said this as the chief guest at an event organized on the occasion of auspicious Janmashtami at Sri Sri Anandamayi Kalibari premises in Manikganj Sadar upazila on Sunday.

The food minister said there has been longstanding communal harmony among people of different religions in Manikganj. Everyone must work together to preserve this harmony. Addressing the Sanatan religion followers, she said, “Even if you do not call me in times of happiness, if you call me in times of sorrow, I will try to stand by you.”

She further said that behind her election as a member of parliament is the love and cooperation of Sanatan religion followers. She will try to fulfill that responsibility by standing beside them and working with them.

At the event, the food minister donated one lakh taka to the Sri Sri Anandamayi Kalibari Puja Celebration Committee. She also instructed the deputy commissioner to take necessary measures regarding various demands of Sanatan religion followers.

Later, marking the 48th founding anniversary of BNP, the food minister took part in a tree planting program with party leaders and activists at Beutha Mosque premises and beside the road in Manikganj. She urged everyone to plant more trees to protect the environmental balance.
