Expressing concern over Dhaka's air pollution, the Prime Minister said that Dhaka repeatedly topping the list of the world's polluted cities is shameful for the country. He urged the proper implementation of plans to increase rooftop gardens and school gardens and plant 25 crore trees to overcome this situation. Addressing the officials, he said that instead of only performing routine duties, they must play a greater role by utilizing their respective capabilities for the sake of the next generation.
At the meeting, a decision was taken to identify and conserve the country's ‘Mother Tree’ within the next six months. In addition, directives were given to increase afforestation in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region, ensure regular care and monitoring of planted saplings, and for the Ministry of Environment to take coordinated initiatives to make up for the tree plantation shortfall of other ministries.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintu, State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Saimum Parvez, and Acting Secretary Fahmida Khanam, along with senior officials.
