He said this while speaking as chief guest at a reception organized by the Upazila BNP in Tazumuddin of Bhola on Wednesday afternoon.
Criticizing the previous government, the Speaker said, "I do not have any house of my own in Dhaka, while an MP of theirs named Javed has four hundred and fifty houses abroad." He alleged that drugs had been spread to every household over the past fifteen years. Awami League leaders and activists consume drugs and the areas have become 'factories of extortionists'. At that time, he directed that those involved in drugs be arrested and handed over directly to the police.
The reception was held for him as he was elected Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Earlier, he was also given a reception by the upazila administration. At the event, he distributed cash among more than a hundred helpless people. Besides, the Speaker promised to upgrade Tazumuddin to a municipality and build a park for recreation. The event, presided over by Golam Mostafa Mintu, president of the Upazila BNP, was conducted by General Secretary Omar Asad Rintu.
