The Labour Minister said the decision to form this board was taken after a long four-hour discussion on Saturday (31 October) with labour leaders and representatives of the garment factory owners' associations BGMEA and BKMEA.
It may be noted that garment workers have been protesting continuously for several days demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. Even today, Sunday, the day the wage board was announced, they protested by blocking roads in Mirpur of the capital and in Gazipur.
