State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam disclosed this information at a press conference on Sunday (November 1). According to the new regulations, the one-time registration fee for two-seater e-rickshaws has been set at Tk 8,000 and for four-seaters at Tk 10,000.
Although the registration is valid for 12 years, it must be renewed every year. The annual renewal fees for two- and four-seater e-rickshaws are Tk 4,000 and Tk 5,000 respectively. In addition, Tk 1,000 must be paid for a fitness certificate and another Tk 1,000 for a QR-coded number plate. Alongside this, the vehicles must meet structural standards set by BUET.
Under the new rules, e-rickshaws have been banned from national highways, expressways and major bus routes. In addition, the areas of Dhaka's two city corporations will be divided into eight color-coded zones and routes for these vehicles will be specified. However, the state minister said unregistered vehicles will not be removed from the roads immediately but will be removed gradually.
