The administrator said these things during a meeting with a 10-member delegation of the Bangladesh Hawkers Union at the DNCC conference room at noon on Monday. At that time, members of the delegation handed him a memorandum demanding the rehabilitation of hawkers.
The DNCC administrator said hawkers have been removed from footpaths out of necessity in the interests of public movement. If arrangements are made for 300 to 500 shops in alternative places, hawkers will have shops in their own structures there, and no makeshift stalls can be set up. During the meeting, the Hawkers Union delegation and the DNCC administrator assured each other of cooperation. Senior police officials were present at the event.
