Jatiya Party (JaPa) was once considered the third force in the country's politics. The party played an important role in the power equation of the two major parties in many cases. But due to a long association with the Awami League, participation in controversial elections, leadership crises, and repeated splits, that position has now been lost. In the changed political reality after the July mass uprising, the party has become cornered. The party did not win any seats in the thirteenth national parliamentary election; even its influence in strongholds like Rangpur has collapsed. As a result, the big question before Jatiya Party is—can the party become relevant in politics again?

Many political analysts, former and current leaders of Jatiya Party believe that the party's chances of making a comeback in voting and grassroots politics have become slim. Because the party has no dedicated workforce of its own. Its supporter base has also merged into various other parties. There is also no leadership to rebuild the party anew. As a result, Jatiya Party is now being seen as a small party in the political arena.
