During a courtesy meeting held on Thursday at the conference room of the Road Transport and Highways Division, detailed discussions were held on expanding JICA's cooperation in metro rail, road and bridge infrastructure, expressway construction, technical assistance, capacity building, and future development projects.
The meeting was attended by State Minister for Road Transport and Highways Division and Railways Habibur Rashid, Secretary of the Ministry of Railways Md. Fahimul Islam, Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque, Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Zakaria, and senior officials of JICA.
In the meeting, Sheikh Rabiul Alam said that JICA has been working as an important development partner in modernizing Bangladesh's communication infrastructure for a long time. Japan's assistance, especially in metro rail, road, bridge, and other strategic infrastructure development projects, is playing a vital role in the country's economic growth and sustainable development.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the current government is working to build a safe, modern, sustainable, and integrated communication system. The cooperation of international development partners is important in projects for public transport, smart transport systems, and increasing regional connectivity to achieve this goal.
JICA President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko assured continued Japanese cooperation in Bangladesh's infrastructure development, saying that JICA will remain by Bangladesh's side as a reliable partner in its development journey in the future. Along with the successful implementation of ongoing projects, cooperation will continue in new potential sectors.
In the meeting, both sides agreed to further strengthen mutual cooperation in the successful implementation of the metro rail project, integrated development of the Matarbari region, modernization of the road communication system, increasing technology and technical assistance, and future infrastructure development projects. At the same time, the commitment to further strengthen the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Japan was expressed.
