In the forecast published on Tuesday, it was said that within the next 72 hours, short-term flood conditions may occur in some low-lying areas adjacent to rivers in Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Feni, Chattogram and Khagrachhari districts. Besides, there is a risk of temporary flooding in some low-lying areas adjacent to rivers in Lakshmipur and Noakhali districts.

At the same time, the centre said that short-term flood conditions may also occur in low-lying areas adjacent to rivers in Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Netrokona, Sherpur and Mymensingh districts.

In the forecast signed by Assistant Engineer Mostafa Kamal Jihan of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, it was said that within the next 48 hours, the water of the Teesta River may flow above the danger level. As a result, there is a risk of short-term flooding in low-lying areas adjacent to rivers in Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts.

The forecast further said that in the last 24 hours, very heavy rainfall has occurred in the Chattogram division and heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sylhet and Barishal divisions of the country. During the same period, heavy to very heavy rainfall has also occurred in the Indian states of Meghalaya and Tripura.

According to information from meteorological agencies, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions and upstream areas of Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal in India over the next four days. As a result, water levels in several rivers of the country are likely to rise further.
