He made these remarks on Sunday (July 19) at a discussion meeting titled 'Blood-soaked July: Context, Blood Debt, and Where is Bangladesh Heading' organized by the Gonoadhikar Parishad at the National Press Club in the capital.
Nurul Haque Nur said that everyone must also stay alert against Jamaat's alleged conspiracies. He alleged that while the party makes anti-government statements outwardly, it is engaging in positive discussions internally. He also claimed that through provocative speeches, political instability is being created, paving the way for the rehabilitation of the Awami League.
He further said that although a historic opportunity emerged after the July uprising, during the interim government's tenure, Jamaat supporters have been appointed to various important state institutions using students. He claimed that attempts have been made to establish the influence of a specific political circle in areas including the police administration, various universities, the energy sector, and BCS cadres.
Regarding social media, Nur said that technology has been used to create the perception that Jamaat is the largest political force in the country. However, in reality, in many electoral constituencies, the picture portrayed on social media did not match the ground reality.
He said that some young people who participated in the July movement have become dependent on Jamaat before building their own political foundation. This is damaging the potential for alternative political forces to emerge.
According to Nur, those who support Jamaat remain with the party. But if any new proxy political force emerges, the core spirit of the July uprising will be questioned.
Referring to foreign powers, he said that during and after the movement, various international parties have tried to use Bangladesh's political situation for their own interests. He alleged that by creating a narrative of the rise of extremism with Jamaat at the forefront, there may be attempts to create new political crises in the future.
He said that if Jamaat rises, an abnormal situation could be created in the country in the future. Therefore, it is essential to build national consensus on the Jamaat issue to protect independence and sovereignty.
