In the statement, Ghazi Nazrul Islam said the incident occurred on July 13, 2026. On that day, he went to the business office of his second wife's father, Md. Masum Billah, in Mogbazar, accompanied by his first wife, Mosammat Maksuda Begum, his second wife, Mariam Begum, and his driver, Obaidullah.

He claimed that while they were there, with the help of driver Obaidullah, 6-7 unidentified individuals entered the office, demanded to know their identities, and began harassing them. Later, they were taken to a tea shop downstairs and demanded 5 lakh taka as extortion. The statement mentioned that they were released after paying some money on the spot.

Ghazi Nazrul Islam alleged that the mastermind behind the entire incident was his driver, Obaidullah, who is also his second wife's maternal uncle. He claimed the incident was orchestrated due to a previous enmity between Masum Billah and Obaidullah's brother-in-law.

The statement further said that around 10 PM on the day of the incident, Obaidullah demanded 5 lakh taka from him and 10 lakh taka from Masum Billah. When they refused to pay, they were threatened with social defamation and harm to their family using CCTV footage.

According to Ghazi Nazrul Islam, after not receiving the demanded money, a misleading and obscene video was created using the office's CCTV footage and circulated on social media. He claimed the incident was a planned conspiracy and an attempt to defame him and his wife.

Strongly condemning the incident, he said it was entirely staged. He also demanded the swift identification and exemplary punishment of driver Obaidullah and all others involved in the incident.
