Meghmallar Basu Resigns from Chhatra Union to Join New Political Platform
Meghmallar Basu, the Education and Research Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra Union's central committee, has resigned from the organization. Concurrently, Main Ahmed, Vice-President of the central committee, has also stepped down. Furthermore, due to organizational realities, Nazifa Jannat, another Vice-President of the central committee, has been relieved of her duties.

The announcement was made in a press release signed by Chhatra Union General Secretary Shimul Kumbhakar on Saturday (July 25).

According to the press release, the central committee has formally accepted the resignation letters submitted by Main Ahmed and Meghmallar Basu. In the current political landscape, both leaders have affiliated themselves with a new political platform. The organization noted that holding policymaking positions in two distinct political entities simultaneously could lead to ideological divergence or a conflict of interest. Consequently, they tendered their resignations voluntarily.

Chhatra Union stated that the central committee resolved to accept the resignations after a thorough review of their motives and current political alignments. Guided by the same context and organizational principles, Vice-President Nazifa Jannat was also relieved of her responsibilities.

The organization emphasized that this decision was necessary to uphold ideological integrity and organizational transparency. Under Chhatra Union's governing principles, it is prohibited for an individual to serve in a policymaking capacity across multiple political organizations concurrently.

The press release further stated that the Chhatra Union respectfully acknowledges the organizational contributions of the departing leaders and extends its best wishes for their future political and personal endeavors.

Concurrently, the organization reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to advancing its core objectives—advocating for the right to education, non-communalism, democracy, the anti-imperialist struggle, and the establishment of an egalitarian, socialist Bangladesh.
