The protest in Delhi, sparked by allegations of question leaks in the NEET examinations, has escalated into one of India’s largest student movements in recent times. Students from educational institutions across the country have rallied in support, with several opposition political parties also extending their solidarity.
Political analysts note that Banerjee’s potential presence at the demonstration could send a significant message across the national political spectrum. Facing pressure on multiple fronts in both Parliament and the West Bengal Legislative Assembly recently, the Trinamool Congress may be seeking to explicitly align itself with a high-profile national campaign.
On Sunday, Banerjee expressed her support for the protesting students via social media, writing: "I have stood by the students from the very beginning. Their movement against the NEET scam is not just a demand for justice; it is a fight to protect the future of every young person in this country."
She further hinted at joining the movement in person if required, fueling speculation regarding her trip to the capital.
Ever since allegations of the NEET paper leak surfaced, nationwide demonstrations have been demanding the cancellation of the exam, an impartial investigation, and exemplary punishment for those involved. The sit-in at Jantar Mantar remains a central focal point of these demands.
Observers believe that should Banerjee appear at Jantar Mantar on Monday, the movement will gain substantial political momentum, drawing close attention from national political circles.
