At a press briefing on Sunday, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud said that the arrested Mugdha Das (23) and Siddhartha Das (19) went to the Ganapatis' rooftop via the adjacent building and were taking yaba. Hearing the noise, Ganapati Chakraborty went to the roof and objected, and they killed him by twisting a gamcha around his neck.
Police claimed that then one by one, Ganapati's wife Pritilata Chakraborty, daughter Agami Chakraborty and sleeping son Ayush Chakraborty were killed.
After the murder, the accused took a bath at the house and left with some gold ornaments. Later they hid them behind a temple. Police recovered evidence from there.
The police commissioner also said that the household items were scattered to divert the investigation in a different direction, and the mobile phones were kept in detergent-mixed water to destroy fingerprints.
