Hasnat said he spoke in parliament while criticising the home minister's remarks over a situation like banning music and films in Brahmanbaria. However, he made a factual error in mentioning the location of the boat race. He noted that saying Brahmanbaria instead of Sylhet created an unintended misunderstanding.
He also said that Bangladesh will have diversity of religion, opinion and culture, and it is the government's responsibility to ensure everyone's rights. Hasnat Abdullah reaffirmed his commitment to building a universal and equal-rights-based Bangladesh imbued with the ideals of July.
