In the chief guest's speech, Abdul Halim said elections are the main method of establishing democracy. He expressed hope that if the election is free, fair and neutral, the people will be able to vote according to their preference, and the candidate of the 11-party alliance nominated by Jamaat-e-Islami will emerge victorious.

He urged those with responsibilities to perform their duties with courage, patience and wisdom while facing all kinds of obstacles, temptations and provocations in the election.

He further claimed that in the last national election, the results were manipulated to prevent Jamaat's victory. He also claimed that the people enthusiastically cast their votes for the scale symbol.

The rally, presided over by the district Jamaat Amir Professor Belal Uddin Prodhan, was attended by Jamaat Central Working Committee member and assistant director of Rangpur-Dinajpur region Principal Maulana Momtaz Uddin, former Thakurgaon district Amir Maulana Abdul Hakim, former Dinajpur district Amir Anwarul Islam, and Panchagarh district Amir Iqbal Hossain among other leaders.

It is to be noted that in the national parliamentary election held last February 12, the seat was declared vacant after BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, elected from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, was elected President. In that election too, Delawar Hossain had contested as the candidate of the 11-party alliance. The Election Commission will soon announce the schedule for the by-election for the seat.

Meanwhile, a long march program from Dhaka to Rangpur has been announced for September 19 to implement the July National Charter, implement the referendum verdict, and protest the price hikes of fuel oil, gas and electricity. Maulana Abdul Halim sought the cooperation of leaders, activists and supporters to make the program successful.
