NCP views Mecca Pact positively: Asif Mahmud
The National Citizens Party (NCP) views the government's interest in Bangladesh joining the 'Mecca Pact' signed among Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey positively. However, party spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has stressed keeping the country's interests and foreign policy balance intact.

On Monday (31 August), after performing Umrah, he said this while talking to journalists at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport.

Asif Mahmud said if the pact proves fruitful for Bangladesh, joining it will be positive. However, the NCP is reviewing its advantages and disadvantages at its own level, and is also holding discussions with diplomatic partners of the concerned countries.

He said Bangladesh historically has maintained relations with everyone, without being tied to any particular military or commercial bloc. Therefore, in the future too, Bangladesh should enter military or commercial agreements while keeping the door of relations open with all countries.

He also emphasized building fruitful relations in the country's interest while maintaining equal opportunities with other commercial partners.
