In the interview, Sheikh Hasina said Sheikh Selim is a senior presidium member. In her absence, he will perform the duties of the president. She also said her younger sister Sheikh Rehana is not directly involved in politics.
In the interview, Sheikh Hasina spoke about her plans to return to the country, personal security, the current situation in Bangladesh, India-Bangladesh relations, and the future leadership of the Awami League. She again said she would return in December. However, she also highlighted her fear of being killed at the airport if she returns.
Expressing concern over the current situation in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina claimed that militant forces are on the rise in the country. She commented that this could affect India's security and regional stability as well as Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina also raised questions about India's position regarding Bangladesh's elections and the return of Tarique Rahman to the country. She said the Indian government itself can better explain what considerations led it to support Bangladesh's elections and assist Tarique Rahman in returning.
Speaking about the current political situation, Sheikh Hasina also criticised Tarique Rahman. At the same time, she said relations between the two neighbouring countries need to be advanced on the basis of regional cooperation and mutual interests.
Expressing emotion over the situation in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said her heart bleeds when she sees the country being destroyed. Along with her desire to return, she also expressed concern that no one else's life should be put at risk because of her return.
