Tension has arisen in Bangladeshi-dominated Jackson Heights over Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarek Rahman's visit to New York. On Sunday (September 20) night, alongside BNP leaders and activists' program to welcome the Prime Minister, Awami League leaders and activists also took a position in opposition to the visit.
When both sides chanted slogans and made statements against each other, the situation became heated. Members of the New York Police took position at the scene to control law and order and remained alert.

Prime Minister Tarek Rahman left Dhaka for the United States to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. He will address the UN General Assembly on September 24.
