The NBR said that during the raid, documents related to the source, import and purchase of alcohol and alcohol-based products, and information on customs, VAT and income tax payments are being verified. If irregularities are found, procedures to seize the goods are also underway.
Earlier, in 2021, customs intelligence raided Irish Pub and Restaurant in New Jurain and seized a large quantity of foreign liquor and 57 sets of walkie-talkies lacking BTRC approval. A case was filed at Kadamtali police station as valid documents for liquor import were not found.
Customs officials alleged that the authorities of Irish Pub sold liquor produced later by showing old documents. Officials also alleged attempts to influence the investigation.
However, Sheikh Nur Islam denied the allegations, saying he sold Irish Pub long ago and currently has no connection with these businesses.
The agency said detailed information will be provided after the NBR's latest raid is completed.
