The minister made these remarks while briefing journalists after inspecting Chattogram Jetty and Silos. Later, she inspected the warehouse of Dewanhat CSD and inaugurated the conference room of Halishahar CSD.
The Food Minister said she is hopeful that there will be no crisis in food supply during Ramadan due to adequate stock. However, advance preparations must be taken considering extra demand, transport costs and volatility in the international market.
She said if coordination can be ensured at every stage of food procurement, storage and distribution, delays, transport costs and waste can be reduced. She also emphasized reviewing the progress of import and domestic procurement operations and quickly removing obstacles in the supply system.
Regarding the inspection of Chattogram Jetty and Silos, the minister said the effectiveness of infrastructure, project progress and limitations of the storage system have been reviewed. Necessary measures will be taken to ensure warehouse maintenance, food quality testing, machinery functionality, accurate stock accounting and accountability.
Afroza Khanam also emphasized removing the manpower crisis and administrative limitations of the Food Department, as well as making long-unused facilities usable again.
During the inspection and inauguration, the Director General of the Directorate General of Food, officials of the Food Department and senior officials of the district administration were present.
