On Sunday (October 11), these issues were discussed at a meeting with a delegation led by Marubeni Corporation President and CEO Masayuki Omoto at the Ministry of Commerce in the Secretariat. Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Abdun Naser Khan was present at the time.
At the meeting, discussions were held on fertilizer production, information technology, energy, the ship recycling industry, Toyota brand car manufacturing, and the Bangladesh-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The Commerce Minister said Japan's technology, experience and investment can play a role in Bangladesh's industrialization, technology transfer and job creation. To attract foreign investment, efforts are being advanced to simplify business operations, reduce administrative complexities and carry out necessary reforms.
Marubeni's CEO highlighted the potential for modernization of KAFCO, effective use of natural gas, and increasing fertilizer production capacity. He also expressed interest in new investment and technical cooperation in the production of DAP and TSP fertilizers.
Highlighting Bangladesh's potential in the ICT sector, he said Bangladeshi engineers of BJIT, which is run through joint investment, are providing services in Japan and international markets. There are opportunities to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence and IT outsourcing.
In addition, discussions were held on environmentally friendly ship recycling technology, uninterrupted electricity supply in economic zones, and the potential of small modular nuclear reactor technology. The matter of producing high-value diversified products by mixing jute fiber with other fibers and expanding research also received importance.
The Commerce Minister said the government is giving importance to facilitating company registration, trade licenses, and investment-related approvals, as well as the repatriation of profits and capital of foreign investors.
