She issued this directive today while inspecting the wheat-carrying ship MV ‘Spring Sky’, carrying wheat imported from the United States, at the Patenga outer anchorage of Chattogram Port.
The food minister said that prescribed standards must be followed in testing the quality of food grains. Decisions must be made based on the test results so that there is no opportunity to accept or supply low-quality food grains. In this regard, the concerned officials must maintain honesty, professionalism and neutrality. Negligence in performing duties or laxity in quality verification is in no way acceptable.
She also said that coordination among the concerned parties is necessary to maintain the quality of imported food grains, ensure they reach their destination on time and are stored properly. Long-standing problems in food management have been identified. Now initiatives will be taken to solve them gradually on a priority basis; this will take some time.
The food minister said that ensuring people's food security is an important public service responsibility. All concerned must work with honesty and responsibility to ensure that no one faces a food crisis and that food can be delivered to everyone in time. She also said that the professional skills and sincerity of officials and employees will be properly evaluated.
During the inspection, the Director General of the Directorate General of Food, concerned officials of the Food Division, and representatives of the district administration were present.
