Environment Minister urges implementation of national action plan to prevent lead pollution
Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintu has called for ensuring the effective implementation of the 'National Strategy and Multi-Year Action Plan 2026–2035' to build a Bangladesh free from lead pollution. He said all concerned must work collectively to ensure the healthy development of children, protection of workers' health, and a safe environment. He said this while speaking as chief guest at a seminar held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Wednesday (October 14).

On the occasion of International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, Pure Earth Bangladesh organized this seminar titled ‘Progress Towards a Lead-Free Bangladesh’. At the event, the minister said that on August 17, the cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, approved this action plan to build a lead-free Bangladesh. He called on development partners and the private sector to provide financial and technical support for its implementation. The environment minister also mentioned that work is ongoing to formulate an ‘Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)’ framework to prevent pollution from the lead-acid battery industry.
